For a bug report, include your iPhone model, iOS version, SalarySums version, what you were doing and what happened. A screenshot can help—please hide unnecessary personal or financial details. You do not need to send your full household export or payslip to report a problem.

Getting started

Add a salary from Income → Add a salary, or use Add other income for income you have already allowed for expenses and tax. Add account balances and saving goals from Savings → Add new.

Open the settings button on Household to choose the tax year, set a household name and manage reminders, data and optional iCloud sync. The launch version uses GBP and UK tax calculations. Each salary has its own UK tax region setting.

Why does my take-home estimate differ from my payslip?

SalarySums estimates annual PAYE deductions and divides the result into monthly or weekly averages. Payroll can differ because of pay-period rounding, irregular earnings, one-off payments and your tax circumstances.

Check the selected tax year, region, tax code, pay frequency, pension method and student loan plan. Figures are for planning and may not cover every tax situation. Other income entries use the after-expenses-and-tax amount you provide; SalarySums does not calculate a self-assessment tax bill for them.

Can I track a personal pension or SIPP?

Yes. Choose Personal pension / SIPP as the savings pot type and enter its balance and your planned payment. Investment and pension projections use assumed growth. Tax relief and employer top-ups are not added automatically. A pension savings pot and the pension deductions on a salary are separate records.

How does iCloud sync work?

Where the feature is available in your version, enable iCloud sync inside SalarySums Settings. Your iPhone must be signed in to iCloud. Use the same Apple Account on your other devices.

Edits save locally first. While sync is enabled and available, SalarySums checks iCloud when opened, after changes and periodically while running in the foreground. Offline changes wait until a successful connection. Last synced shows the last completed sync.

Sync uses your private iCloud database. Household people and pot owner labels help organise records; they do not give another person access or create shared Apple Accounts.

Sync needs attention

  • Check your connection and that you are signed in to the intended Apple Account.
  • Open SalarySums Settings and read the iCloud status. Tap the status to retry when that option is available.
  • If asked to choose between copies, compare them carefully. A previous conflict copy may be available under Your data & privacy.
  • Keep your existing app and records while investigating. Email support before clearing data or reinstalling if you are unsure which copy is current.

Turning sync off leaves both existing copies in place. New changes stop syncing until you enable it again.

Why is SalarySums AI unavailable?

AI requires a compatible iPhone running iOS 26 or later, with Apple Intelligence enabled and the on-device model ready. Availability can depend on Apple’s supported device, language and region settings.

Check iPhone Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri. If the model is still downloading or temporarily unavailable, try again later. The app does not switch to a cloud AI service when local AI is unavailable.

AI replies can contain mistakes. Compare important figures against your saved records and check decisions with an appropriate professional. Clear the conversation using the reset control on the AI page.

A document import missed a field

Use Import → Choose photo or Choose PDF or file on the salary or savings form. Try a clear screenshot showing the relevant details. PDFs must be unlocked and files must be under 20 MB; the reader considers up to the first four PDF pages.

Review the detected fields, uncheck anything you do not want, and fill in missing details yourself. Applying detected details fills a draft. The form is saved only when you tap Save. Check the pay frequency and whether an amount is gross pay when importing salary information.

How do savings reminders work?

In Settings → Savings reminders, choose daily, weekly or monthly, select a time and tap Save reminder. Monthly reminders use days 1–28. Allow notifications when prompted, or enable them for SalarySums in iPhone Settings.

Reminders are scheduled locally. They prompt you to update balances; they do not add money, record deposits or update your accounts automatically.

How do I export my information?

Open Settings → Your data & privacy → Export to spreadsheet (CSV). The share sheet lets you save to Files or share with another app, including an email app. The CSV opens in Excel and Numbers and includes income, savings pots and recorded balance history.

Store exports somewhere you trust. Files you save or send are separate copies, and SalarySums does not delete them when you change or clear the app’s records.

How do I clear my household?

Open Settings → Your data & privacy → Clear all data, then read and confirm the message. This empties the active household and removes the previous conflict recovery copy. Local synchronisation state may still contain a comparison snapshot.

With sync enabled and active, an empty household is also queued for your private iCloud database and other devices. Wait for a successful sync before relying on that change elsewhere. With sync off, the cloud copy remains. Removing the app also leaves any existing cloud copy, device backups and exports in place. See the privacy policy for details.
