TidyTogether Privacy Policy

Last updated:

The short version

TidyTogether stores the information needed to organise your household's chores and keep accounts secure. Your home is private to its connected members. We do not sell your personal information, run adverts or use marketing trackers in the app.

Using a profile without an email address

An account holder makes your profile using a display name or nickname. It does not have to be your real name. You connect with a setup code, without an email address, password or birthday. The app calls this a “child profile”, but a household member of any age can use it.

You can see your assigned chores and tick them off. You cannot create chores or enter messages from this profile. The app saves completion records against the profile so household members with accounts can see what has been done. Your profile and chores are private to your home.

You can disconnect your device in Settings. Ask an account holder in your home to help change or remove your profile, or contact us for help with your information. If you are a child, a trusted grown-up can help you with this. Children have privacy rights too.

We do not ask for your location, contacts, photos or microphone. If you allow notifications, a chore name can appear on your lock screen. You can turn notifications off.

Who is responsible

TidyTogether is provided by Jonathan Jones trading as JonsTech, United Kingdom. Jonathan Jones is responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

What we use and why

Information TidyTogether uses and why
InformationWhat it is used for
Grown-up account name, email address and a password stored as a hash, or an Apple sign-in identifierCreating and securing your account, verifying email ownership, signing in and recovering access. Apple may give us a private relay email address if you choose Hide My Email.
Household name, home-plan answers, member names or nicknames, profile colours and rolesCreating your shared home and showing the right information to its members.
Chore names, categories, repeat schedules, assignments, completion dates and progress totalsShowing chores, recording completion, calculating progress and sharing updates with your household.
Invitations, profile-device connections and sign-in/security recordsConnecting the right people and devices, limiting repeated requests and preventing unauthorised access. Sign-in records can include IP addresses and device information.
Device push tokens, time zone, reminder time and notification preferencesSending notifications you enable. Assignment alerts include the chore name; daily reminders use a general message.
Apple transaction identifiers, subscription product/status and household purchase-linking identifiersVerifying Pro access, renewals, expiry, restores and refunds. We do not receive your payment-card details from Apple.
Messages and details you send to supportAnswering your question, investigating a problem or handling a privacy request.

Account details are needed for account-holder sign-in. A profile connected with a setup code uses its display name, profile identifier, assigned chores, completion records and device connection rather than its own email account. These records let the app show the right tasks and save which ones have been completed. Notifications are optional. Please avoid putting medical details, school details, addresses or other sensitive information into chore or profile names.

Our reasons for using personal information

We use the information needed to provide your account, household service and subscription to carry out our agreement with you.

For profiles without email addresses, our legitimate interest is providing the private household planning service requested by the household. This includes showing assigned chores to the member using the profile and recording completion for the household. We also rely on legitimate interests to protect accounts, prevent abuse, maintain the service and answer support requests that are not part of an existing agreement. These interests must be balanced against each person's rights, with particular care when a child uses a profile.

For optional notifications, our legitimate interest is delivering the reminders or assignment alerts you request. Device permission is required, and you can disable these alerts without losing access to chores. We use information where necessary to meet applicable legal obligations, including responding to valid privacy requests.

You can object to uses based on legitimate interests. Email hello@jonstech.co.uk and tell us which use you want us to review.

Who can see your household information

Account holders in a home can see its members, chores, assignments and completion history. The owner manages ownership and member roles; account holders manage chores, invitations and profiles. A member connected through a setup code receives their own profile, assigned chores and related history. Account email addresses are not displayed to other household members.

The account holder who creates a profile chooses its display name and assigns its chores. Explain to the person using it that their completed tasks are visible to account holders in the home. If they are a child, explain this in a way they can understand. Only connect people who should have access, and keep invitation and setup codes private.

Services that help run the app

  • Cloud hosting providers store account and household information. Our application database is hosted in Ireland.
  • Transactional email providers send account verification, password-reset and password-change messages from the United Kingdom.
  • Push notification services and Apple deliver the iPhone notifications you enable. Assignment alerts include the chore name and may be visible on your device's lock screen.
  • Apple provides Sign in with Apple when chosen and processes App Store payments under its own privacy terms. We do not receive your payment-card details from Apple.
  • Email service providers process messages sent to hello@jonstech.co.uk so we can provide support.

We may disclose information when legally required. We do not make household profiles public or share them with advertisers.

Our main application database is hosted in Ireland, and account emails are sent from the United Kingdom. Notification delivery and supplier support or service operations can involve processing in other countries, including the United States. Our database provider's published data-processing terms incorporate standard contractual clauses and the UK Addendum for applicable international transfers. Contact hello@jonstech.co.uk for information about the safeguards that apply to your information.

How long information stays

Account and household information remains while the account or home exists so its members can use the service. Chore history is not automatically deleted after 90 days: the app can show a shorter reporting window while keeping older records and lifetime totals.

Verification and password-reset codes expire after ten minutes. Expired authentication codes and sessions are cleared by a daily maintenance job. Account invitation codes expire after seven days and profile setup codes after 24 hours. Expiry stops use of the code but does not itself erase the invitation record. Revoking a profile's device access also does not itself erase the stored device record. There is no general age-based cleanup of invitation or revoked device records.

When a member is removed, their profile name and connection are removed from the active home. Existing shared completion records can remain labelled “Former member” for as long as the home remains. Other people in the home may still recognise who those records refer to.

Deleting an account or home removes the applicable information from the active application database. Shared history may remain as described below and can still be identifiable within a household. Deletion from the active database does not guarantee that any copies in backups or exports are erased at the same time.

Subscription records are used to validate Pro access. To ask about retained information, including messages you have sent to support, contact hello@jonstech.co.uk.

Changing or deleting information

Use Settings → Account and deletion to delete a grown-up account. You may need to confirm your password or use Sign in with Apple again to verify it is you.

  • If the owner is the only account holder, deleting that account also deletes the home, member profiles, device access, chores and completion history.
  • If another account holder belongs to the home, the owner must transfer ownership before deleting their account.
  • Deleting another account holder's account removes their account and profile name. Shared completion records may remain under “Former member”.
  • An account holder can remove a setup-code profile and its device access in Manage Home. The same shared-history rule applies.

Signing out, disconnecting a profile's device or uninstalling the app does not delete the account or home. Deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription: cancel it separately in your Apple Account settings.

To ask about retained shared history, request a copy, correct information or request deletion without access to the app, email hello@jonstech.co.uk. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity or authority to act for a child. Do not send passwords or verification, recovery or invitation codes.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access, correct, delete or restrict use of your personal information, object to its use, or receive a portable copy. A child's rights belong to the child; a parent or guardian may be able to help exercise them.

You can complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. You can contact us first if you would like us to investigate, but you do not have to do so before contacting the ICO.

Your device and this website

The app stores preferences, cached household information and its saved account or profile-device connection on your device. Notification previews are controlled by your device settings. Browser sign-in also uses essential session storage.

This notice describes the TidyTogether app. The separate JonsTech website uses its own website services; those are outside the scope of this app notice.

Changes to this notice

We will update this notice when the app's use of information changes and show the revised date here. For a material change affecting how your information is used, we will provide additional notice where appropriate.
